Besom Project
Some churches and their members are particularly involved with The Besom project in Basingstoke.
‘The Besom’ is a national Christian charity which draws its name from the besom broomstick, and uses the by-line “sweep away suffering”. It is a very practical way of providing a bridge between those who want to give and those in need. Vulnerable people, or those in need, are referred to the project by a number of accredited agencies, and then Besom aims to match their needs with what volunteers can give – from time, energy and skills in things like gardening or decorating, to money or good quality household items. Sometimes individuals can give just an hour to collect donated items, or a group of friends or church group can give a whole day to clean and paint the home of an elderly lady.
